Basements We Have Made Dry

Water came in along the back wall every spring since we bought the house. They put a drain in under the slab and a sump with a battery backup. First heavy rain after that I went down with a flashlight expecting the worst. Floor was dry.

Our block wall had a crack running sideways and a bow you could see from the stairs. They pulled a string line, showed me the number, and fitted carbon fiber straps. The straps sit flat so we can still finish the room. Nobody pushed us to do more than we needed.

Half a day, two cracks filled, and the wall was ready to paint before they left. Another company had quoted me full perimeter drainage. This cost a fraction of that and it has stayed dry through two big storms.

The musty smell upstairs had bothered me for years. It was gone about three days after the liner went down. The humidity reading went from 74% to 48%, and our Dominion bill came down over winter, which I honestly was not expecting.

We sit over a high water table, so the pump runs even on dry weeks. They explained why instead of just selling me a bigger one. Everything stays dry now and the pit is clean. The crew swept the floor every evening before they left.

The kitchen floor bounced every time you walked across it. Three joist ends had rotted where they sit on the sill. They doubled them up and set steel posts underneath. The floor is solid now and two doors that used to stick close properly again.
