4.9 Stars From 312+ Homeowners

Every review below comes from a real Akron address. We publish the four-star ones as well, because a page of nothing but perfect scores tells you nothing. The jobs behind them are written up in our project case studies , measurements included.

5 Things Akron Homeowners Keep Writing About

Counted against the 12 quotes published further down this page, not summarised from memory. The first one is the reason we sleep well.
5 of 12

Nobody pushed a bigger job

The most common thing Akron homeowners write about is the quote they were not given. Four of the reviews below describe being talked out of work, including one where the answer was a downspout.

2 of 12

The basement was left clean

Floor boards, taped doorways and a vacuum at the end of the day. It reads as a small thing until you have had concrete dust upstairs for a month.

3 of 12

Numbers, not opinions

Moisture percentages before and after, string lines on bowed walls, and before and after figures written on the paperwork you keep.

5 of 12

Still dry after the storms

The only test that matters is the first heavy rain after the crew leaves, and the spring thaw after that. Most reviews here were written after both.

2 of 12

One crew, reachable, start to finish

The same faces on day 3 as on day 1, and a foreman who answers his own phone. That is what employing our own people buys you.

Water came in along the back wall every spring since we bought the house. They put a drain in under the slab and a sump with a battery backup. First heavy rain after that I went down with a flashlight expecting the worst. Floor was dry.

Our block wall had a crack running sideways and a bow you could see from the stairs. They pulled a string line, showed me the number, and fitted carbon fiber straps. The straps sit flat so we can still finish the room. Nobody pushed us to do more than we needed.

Half a day, two cracks filled, and the wall was ready to paint before they left. Another company had quoted me full perimeter drainage. This cost a fraction of that and it has stayed dry through two big storms.

The musty smell upstairs had bothered me for years. It was gone about three days after the liner went down. The humidity reading went from 74% to 48%, and our Dominion bill came down over winter, which I honestly was not expecting.

We sit over a high water table, so the pump runs even on dry weeks. They explained why instead of just selling me a bigger one. Everything stays dry now and the pit is clean. The crew swept the floor every evening before they left.

The kitchen floor bounced every time you walked across it. Three joist ends had rotted where they sit on the sill. They doubled them up and set steel posts underneath. The floor is solid now and two doors that used to stick close properly again.

They spent about forty minutes here and told me the problem was the ground slope and a downspout dumping right at the wall. Showed me how to fix it myself for almost nothing. No charge, and no attempt to sell me a system I did not need.

The work is solid and the basement is dry. I am knocking a star off because the start date moved twice during the April rush. They did call ahead both times and took something off the final bill for the delay.

Stair-step cracks in one corner that kept opening a little wider each year. The footing had settled. They put piers in and wrote the before and after measurements on the paperwork. When we sold in the summer, the buyer inspector had nothing to say about it.

One crack, one afternoon, done. What sold me was that the man who quoted the job stood on site while the work happened. Easy to reach, and straight with me about what it would cost before anything started.

A 1920s house with a stone foundation nobody had ever touched. They worked right through February, which surprised me. Boards down the stairs, doorway taped off, vacuumed at the end of every day. My wife was more impressed by that than by the drainage.

Our pipes froze under the floor two winters running. They sealed the vents, laid the liner and added a dehumidifier. No frozen pipes last winter and the floors are warmer. Best money we have spent on this house so far.
The 4-Star One

What We Did About the Star We Lost

Toni Mazzarella in Downtown, Akron knocked a star off because the start date moved twice in April. The complaint is fair and the work was not the problem.

April is the peak of snowmelt season here, and in that window an emergency call from a house with 4 inches of standing water outranks a booked job on a dry basement. That is the right call for the person who is flooding and the wrong outcome for the person who has waited 3 weeks.

Two things changed after that review. Booked jobs inside the March and April window now carry a named backup date agreed at signing, and any job we move gets a credit applied without the homeowner having to ask. The reason the queue exists at all is covered in our spring thaw checklist , which is also the cheapest way to stay out of it.

The work is solid and the basement is dry. I am knocking a star off because the start date moved twice during the April rush. They did call ahead both times and took something off the final bill for the delay.

Where These Come From

How We Ask for Reviews, and What We Never Do

Three rules, applied to all 312 of them. Any review page worth reading should be able to state its own rules this plainly.

We ask once, at the annual check

The request comes 12 months after the job, at the free pump and drain inspection, when a homeowner has actually lived through a winter with the system. Not on the driveway with the paperwork still warm.

Nothing is offered in exchange

No discount, no gift card, no entry into a draw. Paying for reviews breaks the platform rules and it makes every other review on the page worthless.

Nothing gets filtered out

We do not screen for a rating before asking, and we publish the reviews that criticise us. A page of nothing but perfect scores tells a reader that somebody is choosing which ones appear.

7 Questions to Ask Any Akron Contractor

Reviews tell you how a company behaved on somebody else's house. These 7 questions tell you how it will behave on yours. Ask all 7 of every quote you collect, including ours, and the differences will be obvious inside 10 minutes. Our answers are written down on the process page and the warranty terms .

  1. 1

Ask for the moisture readings in writing, with the location and height of each one.

  2. 2

Ask whether the price is fixed or an allowance, and what triggers a change order.

  3. 3

Ask who employs the installation crew, then ask for the workers compensation certificate.

  4. 4

Ask what the warranty excludes, not what it covers. The exclusions are where warranties live.

  5. 5

Ask whether the warranty transfers, once or repeatedly, and what the transfer costs.

  6. 6

Ask what happens to the discharge water, and where it lands on your lot in February.

  7. 7

Ask for 2 addresses in your own neighborhood where the same system was installed 5 years ago.
